As a kid, any record store that stocked 45s for each of
Billboard's Hot 100 songs impressed me. It gave customers the chance to buy songs that were on their way down the chart and songs that, for one reason or another, wouldn't crack the upper echelon of the chart. Stocking so many records had to have compromised a store's profit margin. Still, I was glad to buy George Benson's "20/20" before it slipped off the charts.
